Chances are good that your own experience with the mothers in your life has shown this to be true. (Those of us at BeCouply can certainly testify to that fact regarding our own mothers!)

When couples think of romantic holidays, Cinco de Mayo is probably not at the top of their lists.

The BeCouply team is here to change all that! We firmly believe that any holiday can be romantic as long as you and your sweetie are spending some quality time together.

So, as the clock strikes midnight on the 5th of May, we’re here to share some fun ideas for celebrating Cinco de Mayo as a couple.

1) Whip up some delicious Mexican cuisine and margaritas at home — One of the best ways to bond as a couple is cooking together in the kitchen. Start off by preparing traditional fare, like tamales and enchiladas. But, mix things up by baking margarita cupcakes for dessert. They taste as delicious as they look!

2) Go out for Mexican food — Not really a DIY type of couple? Head to a Mexican restaurant or food truck for truly authentic dishes and drinks. The atmosphere is sure to be celebratory, allowing you and your sweetie to feel like you’re part of something bigger than just the two of you. Just be prepared to wait as you’ll probably encounter some long lines!

3) Listen to mariachi music — While you’re at home cooking or in the car heading out to a Mexican restaurant, set the mood with the lively tunes of a mariachi band. Don’t have any mariachi tunes on your iPod? Just head to mariachimusic.com to listen to some of the best bands for free!

4) Let the candy (and sparks!) fly with a piñata — Pick up a piñata from your local grocery or party goods store. Engaging in an activity that makes your heart pump harder and your pulse beat faster will potentially lead to a passionate night shared with your sweetie. As you each take turns beating the piñata, hitting it harder and harder until the candy flies out, you just might see a few sparks fly as well!

5) Learn about Mexican history — On a more serious note, Cinco de Mayo is the perfect opportunity to study the history of Mexico and its people. Literary couples might want to read a few chapters of Mexico: A History. Or, for couples in our hometown of San Francisco, head over to SFMOMA, which is currently featuring an amazing exhibit on Photography in Mexico.

No matter how you choose to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, if you spend it with your sweetie, you’re sure to have a wonderful day!

On Tuesday we announced that BeCouply Dates was partnering with Eleven Seven Music to give one lucky couple a VIP Valentine's Day experience with Mötley Crüe, including two tickets to their Feb. 14 performance at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and a meet-and-greet with the band.

We were truly humbled by the response we received — nearly 500 entries in less than 3 days — and now we are thrilled to announce that the winning couple is Kelly and Craig Geist!

We selected Kelly and Craig, a married couple living in Las Vegas, as our winners in part because they are die-hard Mötley Crüe fans.

“Meeting the Crüe on Valentine’s Day would be a dream come true for the both of us,” Kelly wrote in her email entry for the contest. “Our house is decorated with all types of rock memorabilia and a wonderful Mötley Crüe shrine that keeps getting bigger and bigger!”

Kelly, age 35, first saw the band perform on the Dr. Feelgood tour when she was just 14. Similarly Craig, now 41, went to his first Crüe concert on the Shout at the Devil tour at age 13.

"As a couple, Mötley Crüe is part of the musical glue that binds us," said Kelly, “and music is what means the most to us behind our relationship and our daughter.”

We also chose Kelly and Craig, who’ve been together for 16 years, as the winning couple because they embody the mission of BeCouply.

It’s hard to believe we’re in the final hours of 2011. As the clock rapidly approaches 2012, we reflect on some of our milestones of this past year. 

And so we present BeCouply’s Top 11 of 2011:

1. iStrategyLabs’ Startup XLR8R - In February, BeCouply officially arrived on the DC tech scene when we were selected to participate in the inaugural Startup XLR8R sponsored by digital marketing firm iStrategyLabs.

2. The Washington Post - On March 7, we received our first major press coverage with a profile in The Washington Post. The piece featured BeCouply as one of five DC start-ups revolutionizing daily life through mobile technology.

3. PopSugar - On March 18, the press coverage continued as we were featured on TrèsSugar, the sex and culture arm of PopSugar. Backed by Sequoia Capital, PopSugar is a global online media network for women.

4. Our Mission - Since the inception of BeCouply, we have conducted customer development with countless couples, always working to refine our product and perfect our features. Our ultimate goal really became crystalized when we landed upon our perfect  mission statement: Helping couples have epic social lives!

5. Relocation - Knowing that the Bay Area is the best place for tech startups like BeCouply, we moved from DC to San Francisco in June. And, although we’ll always keep a special place in our hearts for DC, we really love our new home!

9. CNN’s Black in America - BeCouply splashed onto the small screen when co-founder Pius Uzamere was featured on CNN’s Black in America 4 with Soledad O’Brien, which premiered on November 13.

10. Women 2.0 - In December, BeCouply’s other-half, Becky Cruze, had her moment in the spotlight when she was featured on Women 2.0’s list of Female Founder Successes of 2011.

11. Following Our Passion - We’re so proud of all that we’ve accomplished this year. But the greatest achievement is being able to work each and every day to pursue our dream: helping every couple in the world have an epic social life!
